Mariculture development is a highly effective business that meets modern environmental challenges and the growing demand for environmentally friendly products. 

The annual catch (production) volume of the fisheries enterprises of the Sakhalin Region is more than 750 thousand tons of fish and seafood. The main objects of the fishery are: pollock, herring, Pacific salmon. 

Mariculture prospects

Promising areas for mariculture are the marine territories washing Kunashir Island and the islands of the Lesser Kuril Ridge. The approximate area is more than 50 thousand hectares, which allows growing and catching about 50 thousand tons of aquatic organisms per year with an export value of more than 100 million US dollars. The water area of ​​the Kuril Islands has exceptional conditions for large-scale development of marine aquaculture, including breeding sea urchins, scallops, kelp and trepang.

Special economic zone

A special economic zone with the most favorable regime in the country has been created on the Kuril Islands, which allows investors to implement projects in the field of mariculture. The regime provides for tax incentives, a free customs zone and the import of foreign labor without quotas.

Free areas 

Almost the entire marine area of ​​the Kuril Islands is free to form the boundaries of fish farming areas for mariculture. An agreement for the use of a fish farming area is concluded with legal entities and entrepreneurs registered in the Russian Federation in accordance with the Federal Law “On State Registration of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs” for the implementation of aquaculture (fish farming).

The process of obtaining a land

An aquaculture incubator can be obtained in 80 days. To do this, you need to register a company in the Russian Federation, select a land plot on a digital map and submit an application using the online service aquavostok.ru. Rosrybolovstvo (Federal Agency for Fisheries) will review the application and hold an auction within 40 days. After another 40 days, the winner of the auction will receive a 25-year land lease agreement.
